Introduction

You can transfer your existing Acronis True Image license to a new computer, if the previously used computer becomes retired and is no longer used. In other cases, a new Acronis license must be bought for the new computer.

Solution

  1. Uninstall Acronis True Image from the computer that will be no longer used (if the computer is broken or otherwise unavailable, you can skip this step)
  2. Download and install Acronis True Image on the new computer.
  3. Log in to your Acronis account to activate Acronis True Image on the new computer:
  4. If your serial number is already registered in the same Acronis account (the most common scenario), the software will detect the license automatically. If the serial number is not registered yet, click Enter serial number and manually specify your serial number.
  5. Click on the Account tab to check the license activation status. Unless you have a license pack (3 or 5 computers) with licenses that have never been used yet, you will see a message "You've exceeded the maximum number of activations for this serial number". The message tells that the license should be reactivated on that new computer, which is a standard procedure. The displayed message does not mean any problem with the license - it remains valid and fully usable - just needing re-activation on the new computer (see below).
  6. Click the button Resolve problem and follow on-screen instructions, completing the transfer:

One-time purchase license means your license is unlimited in time. Annual subscription means your license is limited for 1 or 2 years. You can renew your subscription and continue using the product.

After your Acronis True Image subscription expires, all product functionality will be blocked until further subscription renewal, however, the backed up data is still accessible:

  • For 5 days after subscription expires you can continue making backups to cloud storage.
  • During 30 days after subscription expires you can restore data from Cloud Storage. Thirty days after subscription expiration the data in cloud storage is destroyed.
  • Local backups remain available for restore.

Mobile device is a device running iOS or Android. A tablet running Windows operating system is considered a computer.

Additionally, you can purchase a quota for Acronis Cloud Storage. Having cloud storage unlocks additional features like storing your backups and archived data in cloud and accessing and sharing this data from anywhere anytime, as well as keeping your social networks content (photos, videos, liked pages and much more) safe by backing up your Facebook accounts.

By purchasing Acronis True Image Premium Subscription you get an Acronis Cloud Storage 1 TB subscription for free.
By purchasing Acronis True Image Standard Subscription you get an Acronis Cloud Storage 50 GB subscription for free

Cloud storage is available as a 1-year or 2-year subscriptions with these quotas:

  • Acronis Cloud Storage - 50 GB
  • Acronis Cloud Storage - 100 GB
  • Acronis Cloud Storage - 250 GB
  • Acronis Cloud Storage - 500 GB
  • Acronis Cloud Storage - 1 TB

The quota is shared among all the machines registered in the account.

The license is based on the purchased subscription term for the specified number of machines (physical or virtual), with no restrictions on the number of mobile devices. Symptoms

You want to activate Acronis True image and provide a serial number. The serial number is accepted, but you see this error message:

Activation required! Days remaining: 30

You try to resolve the issue by clicking Resolve issue or Enter serial number, but you see this message in the further steps:

The serial number is registered to another account

Cause

The serial number you have provided is registered in an Acronis account, but you are logged in to another account in Acronis True Image software.

Solution

There are 3 solutions to fix the error The serial number is registered to another account.

If you bought the license for yourself, try to recall if you indicated a different email address in the purchase form. Search your emails for the purchase confirmation from Acronis store.

If the license was bought by another person, ask them for help in resolving this matter, see the instructions below:

Option 1. Move the license registration from one Acronis account to the current Acronis account

Owners of non-subscription licenses (also known as "Perpetual", "Standard", "One-Time Purchase") can move the licenses between different Acronis accounts at https://account.acronis.com/:
 

  1. Sign into Acronis account, where the serial number is registered.
  2. Locate the necessary product in the list and click Transfer license:
  3. Follow on-screen instructions to complete the transfer.

Subscription license owners ("Essential", "Advanced", "Premium") should contact Acronis Support Team about license transfer between Acronis accounts.

Option 2. Switch to using Acronis account, where the serial number is registered.

You can sign out from the current Acronis account in the software, sign in to the account where the serial number is registered and stay with it.

If you already have backups, synchronization data or archives in Acronis Cloud, they will remain on the Cloud, but will stop being updated with new backup versions and will not be visible in the software after you switch to the other Acronis account. You can always browse and restore data from them either by switching back Acronis account or from a web browser: https://www.acronis.com/my/online-backup/webrestore/.
 

  1. Launch Acronis True Image
  2. Sign out from the current Acronis account by doing either of these:
    A) click on the Account tab - click the email address in the upper part of the window and select Sign Out, or
    B) if there is no Account tab and program is locked, click on the "Sign out" button
  3. Click Sign in
  4. Provide credentials for Acronis account, where the serial number is registered.
  5. If the message "You've exceeded the maximum number of activations for this serial number" appears, that would indicate that not only the serial number was under a different Acronis account, but the license was activated on a different computer. In that case click "Resolve issue" and reassign the license from the old computer to the current one.
  6. Activation should succeed now, as you are signed in to the same Acronis account where the serial number is registered

Option 3. Use a different serial number or buy a new license

If the first two options are not viable for any reason, use a different serial number or buy a new license.
